Default Shrapnel found in transmission pan (and it still shifts)!

Thought I'd share some pics.

So in another post I mentioned I thought my rear brakes were dragging while in reverse but was OK after I had driven for awhile.

Well that seems to be the transmission.

So as suggested I tightened the reverse band up. That didn't seem to fix the problem.

What I did find shocked me. I've seen the gray material in transmission pans that were OK. But never have I seen metal in one.

What surprises me is the transmission still shifts. It's OK in the forward gears but acts like it's locking up in reverse unless I give it extra gas.

Once driven for a few miles it reverses fine.

Not sure where this metal came back. Perhaps the reverse band?

I'm going to just keep driving it until the transmission craps out. Who knows if these bits of metal ate from the reverse gear, no more than it's used maybe it still has some life left.

I put a drain plug in the pan. I have dumped the fluid on my Chevy van after 500 miles then 5000 miles that was lurching a bit (if that makes sense) and seems to do better.

Thought about doing the same on my Dodge to see if it makes any improvement.

That is NOT a good sign...... Think I would be saving my pennies for the rebuild that you know is coming. And likely soon.
