Transmission compatibility.
Hello all.
I have a 2000 transmission out of a 3500 van that I may have to install in my 2002 3500 van.
It is my understanding that some of the electronics between these transmissions in third generation vans ('98-'03) are different. Will the '00 pop right into the '02? The only apparent difference is that my 2002 has the digital gear display in the dash cluster, and the 2000 van the transmission came out of has an analog display.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I think they use a different 'transmission range sensor', as opposed to the p/n switch on the older style. From what I have read, the hole the sensor screws into is a different size/thread.... I *think* it's possible to adapt one to the other, but, not positive on that. Something I would investigate BEFORE spending the money on the older trans.

Upon further review, it seems that the valve bodies in these transmissions are application specific. The 3-pin units (analog gear display) cannot be used in 5-pin vans (digital display) without changing over some components common to the valve bodies. You can get goofy with the wiring and cobble something together, but it's half-assed and ill-advised.
