Exclamation 1990 Dodge Ram 250 L.E.R. Industries Conversion Camper Van

Looking for some beta on this vehicle, it's got low mileage and was stored indoors. When I test drove today, the speedometer was all over the place and maintenance required light was on. Taking it to a mechanic on Monday to confirm any mechanical issues prior to purchasing, but it's 1990 model and I don't if it has a scanner built in. Asking 14k, crazy demand so I don't think it would be able to negotiate price without serious mechanical issues.

Should I buy?

14K seems awful high for a 30 year old van...... but, mileage is low, and he has records. Looks to be in good shape too. On you man. If you don't see anything nice/less expensive listed, go for it.

Yeah, 14K seems high, retail is closer to 5K right now. Covid economy makes everything crazy though, so lots of people are lining up to buy something like this in my area. Do you know of any reasons for why this model of vehicle might be prone to failure? (other than age related material degradation).

1990? As far as things mechanical goes, it is pretty much bulletproof. Parts are even still fairly available, or, worst case, adaptable.

It's OBD I so you can do the key dance to see if there are any codes. The speedometer cable may be mechanical and if so, might just need lubrication. I've had a Class B before and they can be nice for one person, as long as you don't need to use the shower. In those things, it's only about 4 feet tall. I noticed the drawers are a little crooked so interior amenities may be failing. Everything is built to be llight in those to keep it moving. Too heavy, it will wallow.. For $14,000, you can probably buy a newer unit with a little more room inside.

I have a '91 Roadtrek with over 220K and still going strong although I just had the transmission rebuilt. My Speedo acts wonky like that sometimes and sometimes it's normal but off by about 10 mph. The prices seem ridiculously high right now... Good luck!
