Default exhaust manifolds v8 2001 dodge ram

I have replaced the manifold bolts and the gaskets last year and torqued at 18ft lbs. but find that I have to retorque them often. I get a misfire when raising the RPM to about 1300 or so which I suspect is being caused by the loose bolts. Is it normal to have to retorque the bolts so often, the new gaskets are very thick which I feel could be the problem but would be glad to hear from anyone with more experience than myself. Thank you,
Frank.

Hi heyyou thanks for your response. The gaskets are DNJ eg1142 from Amazon and they are made of bright metal on both sides and some kind of a material between the two metals. I hope that is a good explanation. I started questioning myself as to if I could have installed them with packaging on them not realizing, but it doesn't look so viewing them in place. To be sure it would mean removing the manifold. That would be a laugh, but it could happen I suppose. Surely, it shouldn't be necessary to retorque gaskets so many times. What do you think? Frank

You really should only have to re-torque them once. If that..... Do you have the correct torque spec for those bolts???

If they continue to be an issue, I would be real tempted to get some remflex dead soft copper, or aluminum gaskets. They tend to seal a LOT better.....

I once had a really tough to seal manifold issue. I solved it by using 2 gaskets per side after applying Permatex Ultra Cooper between them. The manifolds never leaked again.

Default manifold gaskets problem 2001 ram van

Thanks, alloro and hey you . I once used some of that copper permatex, I'll get it again. I'll keep that info in mind and try it if the problem persists.
