Default Alternators

Does it matter much if I have a 117amp or 136amp alternator in my 2002 ram van?

Going larger than what you had is ok, going smaller than what you had, may not be a good idea..... May not have enough output to keep the battery charged.

The 117 is for a cargo van...136 for a conversion or passenger one...

I remember when alternators were 40, 50 or maybe 90 amps. I always go a little bigger. Back in the 1960's and 70's, we didn't have all the electronics and a/c on stuff like we do now. The lower output will need to be driven a lot more to charge your battery. Personally, when replacing an alternator, I will put the highest out put unit that will fit.
