You're on the right track. Mine does this also after I replaced the ignition switch. Now I'm thinking the tumbler may be part of the issue. I'm just careful when I turn the ignition off. When I turn the switch off and the door buzzer goes off and the radio is still playing I can turn the switch back just a hair with out the key in and that takes care of it. It's an over travel situation

2007 magnum SXT 3.5 L having an issue with the car the key when I turn it it seems like it’s not making a connection to start I don’t hear any noise coming from the starter no clicks or anything showing a dead battery battery is fully charged and brand new the key feels a little squishy and I didn’t notice before hand that when I would turn off the key how your car dings when you put the key in and when you take it out mine has doesn’t do that all the time it’s like it’s got a shorter he feels like it’s got maybe a shirt or some thing in there but now since the car has been having some work done to it has been sitting I noticed now when I turn the key it does not making a connection absolutely nothing and then I turned the key off my lights accessory lights all stayed on
