If it went back in place, and the rod didn't fall out of it position from the valve body, then the snap ring is doing its job and thats fine. Figured I would atleast consider clearing that as the suspect after u did ur bands.
This was one of the things that was burning in my mind I was thinking I didn't install it right but It was definitely still connected to the valve body and the valve.Body wouldn't go up unless I maneuvered the drive shaft correctly so yes it was still connected....Today I'm gonna try unplugging the connector and seeing if the gears engage that way

Yea sounds like that was done right, hope the electrical connector trick helps narrow your problems. Come back if you need help with a rebuild. Did it in my garage by myself. Seems dreadfull and intimidating at first but these are fairly simple transmissions. If I could do it again it would only take me about 4 -5 hours. First go round took me a week total but alot of that time was spent watching the videos on how to DIY.

Thats the problem is i know i can rebuild it... if theres a video on how-to/i can learn it. But i have one 4 ton bottle jack and minimal tools with no extra man power plus its parked out in the yard on a small slab exposed to the elements so dropping the trans completely is not really in the "do-able" spectrum.....I havnt had a chance to try the plug yet because I had to go out of town but I'll be able to try monday..... question though. It's obvious.I've been doing a lot of thinking on this.It could be possible that it's my rear diff? Being that park=park and every other gear=neutral? And when im in reverse the reverse lights come on still? Just trying to cross out every other possibility.... but really thank yall for taking time to help me out with this. I've got ALOT on my plate right now not including the vehicle issue.

If the truck won't move in park, then the rear diff is likely just fine.

Backup lights are just a switch on the shift linkage, down at the trans. That will work even if the guys in the trans have reduced themselves to powdered metal.

It's pretty easy to rule out trans versus diff. Have another person put it in gear while you watch the driveshaft. If it turns then it would be the diff.
