46RE OD on 46RH Tranny
So I got my overdrive out last night and I am in the process of taking the internal hub apart. Waiting for the tool that goes with the press. I hit up a junkyard today to look at overdrive and see if I can find one in case there was a good deal and I could end up just swapping. Unfortunately, and obviously there are many more 46RE transmissions out there than there are 46RH.
I understand that the overdrive in the 46RH is hydraulic electronic. I’m just wondering how much of a pain it is modify the 46RE overdrive to work with the 46RH trans would it be better to modify it and make it hydraulic or convert it to
Electric?
I know there may be some difference with the clutch packs, but the gear ratio is usually 69 to one which matches the 46 Rh. I’m at the point where I’m almost done with the project, but I am really apprehensive about what decision to make so if anyone can give me some direction, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

So far as I know, they are both the same, as they are both activated in the exact same manner. (solenoid on the valve body.) The difference comes in at 97 and older, or 98 and newer. The newer flavors won't have a provision for the VSS, which the older vehicles require. Also, they are different between 2, or 4 wheel drive. Obviously, a four wheel drive O/D unit won't work on a 2 wheel drive vehicle, and you cannot adapt it to make it work either.
