Many Thanks!

Sounds like it causes potential oil loss? Doesn't sound like you can see much if it is inside the intake....
Maybe time for me to invest in a boroscope..... :-)
If it isn't something that's critical, sounds like a project for Springtime.

I'll report back after the mechanic takes a look tomorrow.

Thanks again! :-)

The forum I was on before I came here had a poll post "when did your plenum stat leaking/replace". Or something to that effect but most of the answers where around 140K. It will start out as a leak and progress to miss fires and then drive ability issues. Put on the Hughes plate or equivalent and not have to ever worry about it again.

Sounds like very good advice!
If I buy this van(BTW It has about 75k miles), I'll get the Hughes kit and do it before I have any problems.
Thanks! :-)

There is absolutely no need to buy the expensive Hughes kit when all that is needed is a new gasket and shorter bolts. The stock bolts were too long and bottomed out which reduced the clamping force on the plate and thus a leak. Might even try a washer under each bolt head.

Thanks for the info. I'm operating on limited funds, so this is really good news! :-)
Many Thanks, Rick :-)

OK, quick question....
We're part way through the inspection on the van.
Mechanic tells me the "front end is shot".
Could anyone give me a ballpark figure on what a replacement front end should cost? Assuming it needs all ball joints, tie rod ends and bushing?
I appreciate any thoughts...

Many Thanks, Rick :-)

Parts aren't bad, though still a fair bit of money.... it's labor that kills, and balljoints are time consuming. You are lookin' at four figures there in any event....

Many Thanks!!
I guess it depends on what else is found wrong.
And what I could ultimately get the van for.....
Very much appreciated and I'll let you know what happens...
Many Thanks,
Rick :-)

Thanks to everyone for your help! However, I passed on it.
The mechanic found much more going with it, so I told the seller NO THANKS!

Too busy here to get wrapped up into something that needs work to make it a reliable vehicle for me.

So I'll be back and I Truly appreciate all your help...

Best Regards, Rick :-)

Yep. That's what the inspection is for. To make sure you DON'T end up with a vehicle that is going to nickel, dime, and hundred dollar bill you to death.
