Van stalls frequently when idling
I have a 1995 Dodge B2500 van with knocking sound in the engine. Mechanic thought it was the exhaust, but no exhaust was fine. One Dodge tech thought it needed a valve job. Everyone says to figure it out they have to take things apart and then I might as well just replace the engine. >;( Except for the noice the vehicle runs well. Recently it has started stalling when idling, like when trying to park it. Is this a clue to what the problems is?
Probably a different problem. What engine ya have in there? If it's a V-8, I would be looking down the throttle body, and see if there is oil pooling in the intake. It's a rather common failure, due to the two-piece design of the intake. It'll foul plugs, burn oil, but, not necessarily blow smoke..... While you are there, have a look at the IAC well, they are notorious for accumulating a bunch of crap, that chokes it off, and restricts movement of the IAC... which leads to stalling.
Pretty much. The V-6 I think is less prone to the intake failing.... but, if you aren't getting a check engine light, an inspection of the various parts mentioned above sure wouldn't hurt.
