Default 1999 Ram Van Transmission

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 van. The problem is the transmissins sometimes slips badlyand the rear end has a terrrific grinding sound coming out of it.

Park=nuetral and nuetral=drive

My mechanic friends say I need a new rear end and transmission, but they don't really know Dodges.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated..

your park=neutral problem is a simple adjustment in the linkage. now the rear end making a grinding noise ia a serious problem. this usually means the rear end needs gear oil but if its been grinding for a while the heat has probably expanded the gears and the whole rear end is shot. you can probably pick one up for about 250 bucks but to get someone to install it will cost about 500 bucks. its not hard to install for a do-it-yourselfer. your transmission slipping may be the fluid your using. use only atf+3 transmission fluid. it may also have a dirty filter or old oil. try a fluid flush and a filter change.
