Thats exactly what I did about a month ago (I actually took the entire throttle body off and cleaned it, too). Mine was WAY worse than the one in your pictures, though. I had noticed the random high/low idling since I got this van, when I took it to get checked out for goofing up (bad ECM) they suggested cleaning the throttle body.

Excellent job on the walk-through for cleaning it!

BlueVanACD2005,

I'm really glad that this is helping many of the Dodge Ram Van/Wagon owners to keep their vehicles running and to reduce the shop/dealer costs that some places would soak youin $$$ doing this job.

Peace!

Stev

Great write-up and pictures by stev !

For those that are 'chicken'
spraying the contents
of a $6 can of official Chrysler 'Combustion Chamber Conditioner'
through the little IAT port will help it
but the cleanup proceedure above
can do a more exacting job.

Is it a similar proceedure to clean this on an 89' 318 5.2? I have the same kind of slipping thing in 2nd gear.

I'm not certain since the 89' 5.2L/318cid engines and not Gen-2 Magnum engines. Those are either carbs or TBI vs. TB with injection per each cylinder.

I have limited knowledge on pre-1994 Dodge Ram Van/Wagon vehicles.

Thanks so much for the info. My '99 V6 with 165K miles just would not hold idle or keep running. I pulled the IAC, cleaned it and then went for a drive around the block. Great DIY advice w/ pictures!

I cleaned mine tonight and on the second start-up found that the van was running smoother and idleing better. It took me less than 30 minutes to complete. Also found a bad vacuum hose on the right side of the throttle body which I replaced.

For 330K of miles, cleaning the IAC must have been interesting to see.

The hardest part of the job is taking the dog-house off.
