STRANGE PROBLEM WITH VAN
Hi guys! Another newbie here. My father has a 95 full size 1500 Dodge van with the V-6. Is that considered a B1500? Anyway, the problem he is having is, on cold mornings when he attempts to start it, it will only crank. I know that could be anything, but here's the strange part, on warm days when the key is turned to the "ON" position, the fuel pump pressurizes the line, and you hear a relay click, then turn the key to the crank position and it fires. Now, on cold days, the key is turned to the "ON" position, the fuel pump does not activate, and no relay click, but if the key is left in the "ON" position, after about a minute the relay starts clicking continously (sounds like a helicopter) then starts to slow down and when the relay stops clicking the van will fire up. Any ideas at all what in the world this could be? I was thinking maybe fuel pump? I've never worked on this van, so i'm not too familiar with how this setup operates. Thanks Dan
If it's anything like my 96 2500 V6, I would agree that the fuel pump is the probable cuplrit - and if it's in the gas tank like mine is, get ready for some fun :-)
Mine was acting like it was cutting-out at anywhere from 1/2 tank or less - Bad Gas? nope, corrosion.
The pump assembly slides vertically and the rails it rides on were corroded and hanging it up.
Fun problem to find..

To SVT498; The problem is a bad computer. Take a hair dryer and heat the computer for about ten minutes and the van should start up. This will validate that it is a bad computer. Be sure to aim the dryer at the front vent holes of the computer case, probably on the left FRONT side. HAVE A NICE DAY RIBBIT10
Yes! My '93 B-150 3.9L was behaving in this exact manner, but after heating the engine computer with a hair dryer for 10 minutes (as RIBBIT10 suggested) the fuel pump relays kicked in and the engine started. Don't go changing your fuel pump until you give this hair dryer gimmick a try.
