Air Lock - Engine Heatin up but good.
i've taken an old rad cap busted the center rubber seal out of it so i just have the cap
this turns the cooling system into an open/unpresuized system
fill the radand top up the overflow jug
drive the van keeping an eye on the temp
the system is unable to build pressure and should burp the air pocket out the overflow by using the flow of the waterpump during stop/go
the accel/force of the waterpump

M2600,
Now that is one sure way to get the air out. Too bad I didn't know that a few years back when I changed out the HVAC heater-core in the minivan. I had air trapped in the system for a long time.

I am surprised that more people don't know that with the engine running, even at idle, you can take the cap off without it ending up planted in your forehead and you taking a bad bath.
You are supposed to check the level when it's cold, but to troubleshoot or flush the engine needs to be running. You dont have to drive since the water pump is pully controlled. The water won't cycle until the thermostat opens at 160F.

IG,
Opening up the radiator cap did nothing on the Caravan. The heater-core is governed by a vacuum water-valve. I ended up disconnecting the line and adding coolant mixed distilled water to fill it.
