The tensioner pulley (the spring loaded one)in my 5.9 was squealing, so I bought a new pulley to solve the problem.

My problem is that the NEW pulley is doing the same thing! I don't see how this would be possible, what else could it be?

I can give that bearing a shot of WD40 and it's as quiet as can be, but I don't want to do that every morning.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks- chris

Chris,

What brand of BELT are you using?

Here's my story:
My tensioner wasn't tensioned, bought a new Mopar Pulley and Belt. Made awful noise then fell off and ripped off {and likely didn't do any other damage}... I worked at the dealership... so I knew what was going on. Anyway, that ordered and installed a new belt. It was fine, went to lunch, damn thing FELL OFF AGAIN! Well, I made it back to the dealer, that belt had began to fray too... so they ordered a Napa Brand belt... viola! perfection!!

I know the belt wasn't your problem... but the squealing problem made me think belt... so I thought I'd share. LOL!

thanks for the reply---I think that the belt may be my problem too.... went and asked my mechanic what he thought, and he said the same thing. Start with a new belt and see if that does the trick, besides it's getting worn anyway.

thanks again, chris

Might also ensure that the belt is the correct size/length. Some part folks will give one size up or down to make the sell if they are out of your particular belt. Or the wrong belt could be put in the wrong box. If it is too short it could be causing to much tension..too long..not enough.

Coming frompast personalexperiences. Either way..good luck andjust turn the radio up louder if nothing else. That always works for my buddy in his piece of Ford.....lol
