Default overdrive problem on 90 ram

Help!!
My 90 ram has a 318 v8 with an automatic transmission. It has an electric switch on the dash for overdrive. the tranny shifts into overdrive at about 50mph and when i lift off the gas pedal at any speed above 50 it shifts back to 3rd. I adjusted the linkage but that didn't make a difference. what do I do to fix this.is there something on the tranny i can replace

Sounds more like your torque converter is unlocking, not your trans downshifting. If this is what's going on it's normal. I believe there's a way to wire a switch to the torque converter to manually lock it, but I'm not sure how exactly to do it. If your trans IS downshifting like you think, it's most likely a hydraulic problem inside. Is this a new thing, or has it always been this way? If it's new, have the trans flushed and put a new filter in it.
