Dealer says dont use Synthetic Oil????
I do hear that Mobil One filters are the best though! Also that the Wal-Mart "SuperTech" filters are the same as Mobile One. The K&N, Fram and others are said to be crap filters.
I use full-synthetic in my Duster, which has a fully-built turbo motor. My Ram's 318 gets normal dino oil. Last time the mechanic asked if I wanted synthetic in there, this is what I told him:
Putting synthetic into a stock 318 is like feeding filet mignon to a polar bear. Yeah, he'll eat it, but does he really care?

I Just put synthetic oil in (mobil 1) and wow what a difference the only problem is the extra cash you will spend about $70 more, but its worth it. I payed through my lease for 16 oil changes but if I want to use synthetic they will only honor 1 leter in replacment. I have 12000k on my 07 and the dealer told me even though I am through the break in period that it should never have made the differance, I didnt take that chance. They also said that after twnety or so thousand km I will see a notical differance.
I have run Mobil 1 inmy past 4 vehicles. All of them were changed to Mobile 1 at the first scheduled oil change. I use K&N and Mobil 1 filters. I have heard the Fram filters are about the worst, and don't use them. My new Ram will also get Mobil 1 when I get to the first oil change.
I put synthetic in my 06 Hemi (MDS) at 14K miles.
Unfortunately, when I bought my oil and filter, there was not a note on the website toONLY use the SAE 5W 20 synthetic in the MDS Hemi.
The distributor told me the best weight to use in my truck was the 0W 20. Therefore, this is what I put in it.
I immediately could tell the truck was not running properly (hard to explain -- reminded me of when I had a transmission that was slipping). I contacted the distributor and he told me he would check with corporate.
He insisted that corporate said the 0W 20 would not affect the way it ran. Then about 6 weeks later, I went to the website and there's this NOTE, "1. Vehicles with the 5.7 Multiple Displacement SYS (MDS) must use SAE 5W-20 oil. Failure to do so may result in improper operation of the Multiple Displacement SYS (MDS)."
I had the synthetic oil removed 40 minutes after reading that note. Truck no longer feels as if there is something slipping.
I'm sure if I had put the 5W 20 synthetic in, there would not have been an issue. I called the service department where I bought the truck after reading the above note, he told me that synthetic oil will not void the warranty and that he recommends the use of synthetic oil as long as it was 5W 20.

I have a 2005 ram 2wd with the hemi. I put 5w30 castrol in and I find that in first gear there is a lack of power and then a huge surge of power second to third....is this a result of the wrong oil weight or is this a natural occurance in the ram?also I have a really bad shake/vibration in the steering turning left or right at low speeds. so far they have replaced the rack and the power steering pump but the problem persists it also seems worse when the ac is on. has anyone experienced this problem before and did their dealer find a fix?
I have a 2000 dakota with over 200,000 miles on the clock with a 4.7 motor that has used mobil 1 since its first oil change with mobil 1 filter and 1 quart of lucas oil additive - never used or lost any oil(ichange oil every 7000 miles )just did a compression test and all was great
I just bought a 2007 dodge ram 2500 with a hemi 5.7 and did its first oil change(3001 mile)5 quarts mobil1 5w-20 and 2 quarts lucas synthic oil additive mile around town milage went from 13.8 to 15.5 on average around town--that shows me how slippery mobil 1 is with lucas added--
my son owns a 99 ford lightning with a 5.4 supercharged motor puting out over 450 hp on a dyno at the rear wheeels-he has used mobil 1 with lucas since its first oil change and now has approc 125,000 on the clock--he just removed his heads and had them ported and polished with a 5 angle valve job and new custom cams installed--there was no measurable cylinder wear and no wear to the cams nor rockers--we have his oil checked for particulate material(metals, bearings etc) and show very low levels on wear--I am sold on these products

I ran synthetic oil in my 03 and i will not do it in my 06. everytime i would be 1000 to 500 miles away from an oil change it was low. it didn't burn and it didn't have a leak. i switched back to my regular oil and never had the problem again. Everytime i would stop the oil needle would drop the bell would go off and the oil light would come on. then after your stopped the oil moving around would level out and the light would go off.
