Dealer says dont use Synthetic Oil????
Hello
I have a 2006 Ram 1500 Hemi and I was thinking of using Synthetic Oil (Royal Purple or Amsoil) but my dealer said that Dodge doesnt suggest using synthetic. Has anyone heard of such a thing? They said to use a regular 5w20 oil instead. Thoughts? Also any recomendations on a good oil filter?
Thanks
Matt

off the lot. . .your trans, x-fer, and axels are filled with synthetics. . .only the engine is running on dino juice. personaly, give yourself some miles on the engine to break it in, then switch it over.
I don't own a gen 3 truck however I do own a Gen 2 98 Sport 4X4 ( see sig below) and since I bought it, it's only seen Royal Purple in the crankcase, Tranny and both diffs. I ran it in my 97 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4X4 and in my 02 Ford Mustang GT and every other vehicle on the road. "IF" they told you that it's so you can continue to buy the MOPAR oil which is additional money for the maker.
Break the truck in with regular oil for about the first 5000-8000 miles. After that, use the Royal Purple. The Royal Purple is too slick to allow a proper break-in and your rings may never seat right. The dealer is full of BS, as my SRT-8 is filled with Mobil 1 from DCX.
The Royal Purple is far superior to Mobil 1, it is worth the difference in price.

Yep +1 I've ran syn in all mine since birth. The dealer is going to tell you to run mopar fluids so they can get the revenue. Syn is far better the regular oil anyway. It was explained to me like this one time. I might be wrong but it made sense...Imagine you have a large room you want to move a dresser across. Now you can cover the floor of the room with pebbles that are smooth but the are all differnt shapes and sizes(regular oil). Or you can cover the floor in marbles(synthetic). Make sense?

Cummins says it is poor use of money to use synthetics in engines too:
http://www.cummins.com/na/pdf/en/pro..._Whitepape.pdf
but that it is good use of money to use synthetic gear lubrication.
This is on page 12
Notice that Cummins is trying to protect the profit/losses of its customers,
not claiming that there might not be differences in wear.
With increased use of EGR
all oils in late model year engines
are getting loaded up with soot particles
much faster

Use it from mile one if you want, Ferarri, Corvette, Viper all come with it from the factory, so it isn't an issue.
Why can't you break-in with it? Produce some facts except "That guy told me" and then I may believe it.
