Help Please: 03 Q/C 4.7L
My wife bought me an '03 Q/C SLT 4.7L for Christmas. As of today it has 20,200 miles and is in excellent condition. The truck's MIL came on yesterday though and remains onwhile driving. I don't know the truck's history but it seems to run just fine. Does anyone have experiencewith the MIL on their truck? Is there a problem associated with the Rams that causes the light to activate? The local dealer can't check the truck until late next week. Any cause for concern? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Sometimes, and I mean sometimes, places like AutoZone can check for codes and give you an idea of what the cause is. Without knowing the cause, it's impossible to say whether it's O.K. to continue driving or not. When at the dealer, however, you might ask them to check the VIN number for service records, outstanding TSBs, and outstanding recalls.
yeah...get the trouble code from an obd-II scanner and then you can narrow down the problem. the truck should still be under the factory warranty though. i think you should be ok just waiting for the dealer to have a look. i drove my '99 ram for a couple months with the mil on and there wereno other problems than the initial one.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my questions. I've made an appointment to have the truck checked - it is still under warranty. I've done some reading and it doesn't appear that thereis a category problem, meaning Ram 1500 (4.7L) as a group so it seems whatever the fault - its just my truck. Anyway, again thank you.

Most dealers will tell you to make sure the gascap is tight, 3 clicks. Is MIL a maintenace light ?? as opposed to CEL or SES which indicates trouble.

Disconnect neg. battery cable for about five minutes. This resets the computer. Reconnect and crank and see if it is still on. If it is, then I would go ahead and take it to the dealer.

Yes, MIL is the same thing as SES. It stands for Malfunction Indicator Lamp. Disconnecting the battery will only reset the computer for a while and if the problem persists, the light will come back on. Like they said, it could range from anything to a bad gas cap to a bad O2 sensor. Also, like someone suggested, most AutoZone's will read your computer for free. I suggest doing this until you can take it into the dealer.
