rear axle gasket
I just got my locker in the mail. Before I tear the rear cover off, I would like to have all the parts needed to put it back together. Is there a gasket there? I crawled over the truck and it looks like some type of liquid gasket was used by the OEM. Someome at work said they thought is was gasket sealer. What do I need? Thanks.

RE: rear axle gasket
You can expect to spend $300-$450 depending on which you get plus install.
If you don't know much about rear-ends have it professionally installed, setting the backlash is critical to longevity and proper operation.

RE: rear axle gasket
I bought the lock-right from Rocky Mountian Outfitter. Put it in last night. I had a Quick-Lock in my chevy from 4wheelparts. they are the same thing. 4wheelparts did not have a Quick-lock for the 9.25 diff. Anyway, I put it in, in 2 hours start to finish (remember I have done it before). Piece of cake. Only need to pull one axle shaft out 2 inches. No removing the ring gear and no moving the driver side axle. Hardest part was to remove the right tire an brake caliper on order to slide the axle out 2 inches. Took longer to clean the old gasket off.
I have a '04 1/2 ton quad cab 5.7 hemi ram with 9.25 chy rear end with 3.55 gears.
Paid about $320 total from Rocky Mountain Outfitters.
It is made to slip in normal turns but grab when torque applied. I had one in my '95 chevy 1/2 with 9" lift and 38's and LOVED it. I'll never own a truck with out one.
