Default outa gas.....

was doing some yard work with my 97 halfton last week, and ran out of fuel....[:@] i put about 5 gallons i had lying around in cans, and now it doesn't start. pulled the line off the fuel rail, nothing being pumped, checked that line at the other end on the sending unit, it's unobstructed.....maybe the pump crapped the bed, or need to add more fuel, what do you think?? any tricks out there?
thanks all

quite possible that the pump died. The actual fuel itself is what lubricates the pump and if you don't ahve gas theres no lube therefore damage. On my dad's dodge 4.7 when you turn the key you can here the audible buzz/noise of the fuel pump going before you start the engine. Can you hear it buzzing when you turn the key. If it isn't then most likely the pump is dead.

my brother has alot of diesel trucks, if you run a diesel truck out of fuel you have to re-prime the fuel filter and the pump.

open the fuel line at the engine and have someone watch it,
get the old ladys vacume and put the hose on the blower side and put a slight amount of pressure to the filler neck of the tank this should blow fuel through the pump and lines and prime every thing.

PS remove the hose as soon as you see fuel comming out the line.
