98 Ram stock alternator
Hey all,
What is the stock Amp rating for the alternator on a 98, mine has the dio trio out according the the Auto Zone tester. The only alternator the computer came up with is a 136 amp alternator for $160, the one that came out of the truck was only a 90 amp, it looked to have been replaced before by the previous owner because it is a duralast, should I try to save some money and get a rebuild kit? or should I spend the $160 and get the bigger alternator? so Is the old alternator to small? I dont have a really powerful stereo, the amp for the two 10's is only 760 watts.
Thanks for any help.

I know it sound crazy, but your better off getting a factory alternator. I've tried numerous rebuilds and never have the reliabilty of a stock alternator. The same hold true for starters. I've purchased alternators and starters from local auto parts stores with lifetime warranties. The major problem is I spend a lifetime replacing the defective parts. In one instance I replaced (3) starters from Chief's auto supply within 6 months. Although I became an expert on replacing the starters, I finally got fed up and purchased one from the dealer. That was 6 years ago, and it still is working fine....Sometimes you actually get what you pay for....
