Maybe it has something to do with your gas cap being off while the truck was running. I believe fuel injected engines needvaccuum in the tank to run correctly.

I have been having a lot of problems with my 97 5.2 sputtering out. I replaced the intake gaskets, which was supposed to have been the problem, but it did not help. the gaskets were shot though, so I didnt waste my time, but I still have a problem with the engine running very rich. You can smell the richness when it starts sputtering out??

could be any number of things. a lack of engine vacume, dirty fuel injectors, a bad throttle cable, etc. i dont think it has to do with the gas cap being off.

hop a long: can i ask you why you fuel up with your engine running?
