Default Sentry key issue with starting

I have an 06 2500 Mega Cab Diesel, which has been perfect (except for the lowsy A/C) for 8 months. Today, I start it up, it runs 2 seconds, and dies. Repeat 4 times. I call the dealer and my service writer thinks it is the Sentry Key not working. Confirmed with the fact the red lamp to the lower right of the speedo is ON. So, I get my second key, 2 more starts and stalls, followed by crank/no start. He tells me to R&R the battery negetive cables to reset the computer. I did, it works fine now.
My question is why did this occure in the first place? I camp with the family, a lot, out in the woods, with no cell coverage. Am I expected to know this fix? What happens if I have only 1 key with me, and after resetting the computer, I still have the no run issue?
Can I turn off Sentry Key?
Thanks.
Matt

y dont u take it in and see what teh cods that come up in teh SKIM module and let tehm repair it. Plus no u cant turn off the key if u did that then any one could steal your car and the system would be worthless.
