i own a 1995 dodge ram 1500 3.9lwith 135,000. the engine has been rebuilt(129,000). the engine runs rich(black smoke from exhaust).</P>


compression good, all f.i. sensors good. fresh spark plugs.fuel pressure good. no vacuum leaks.new air cleaner.check engine light indicates that there isexcessive fuel in exhaust and that the engine takes too long to reach operating temp.i've replaced the thermostat(180degree).chemtool fuel injection cleaner was used also.i use only 93 octane from shell or exxon.still black smoke from exhaust.</P>

Check the fuel pressure regulator, if the pressure is too high then you will get too much fuel through the injectors and the ECU can not compensate enough.... my 1st thought.</P>
