Hi all. I have a 1995 Ram 1500 5.9 auto. The problem I am having is that the guts just don't seem to be there anymore. I have had the truck since 96 and just in the last couple of months it has been acting up on me. Another problem that has started is that when I am on the highway and punch it to pass people she tops out and won't catch the next gear until she is on a downslope. Any thoughts would be great I am a little stumped.

Thanks guys. Is there any way to check if that is what is wrong for sure. Are there other things that I would notice.

take it to a muffler shop and ask them to do a temp test on it.Output should be approx 50 deg hotter than the input (will need to run the motor up to 2500 rpm to heat up the cat). Anything less is not working correctly. May be hotter than the 50 deg if plugged (havent had one to test).

aight this just happened to me a. I was driving through a parking lot and the truck just lost power, the engine just shutdown. I put it in park and it took a couple of cranks but she refired. Does this still sound like a cat prob or is it bigger now....

sounds more like fuel pump. How much gas is in the tank? I read an earlier post where someone described a power loss when the tank was 1/4 full... turned out to be the fuel pump. But, after re-reading your earlier post, I'd still check out the cat. with a bad f-pump, it will either have enough fuel pressure or not. Check both to be sure.

Well I just had my truck at my buddies shop and they checked the injectors, pressure, spark, ignitionand everything in the engine and that all checked out fine. His shop doesn't have the tools to check the Cat so that is next. I'll keep you guys up too date
