Default Engine Cleaning?

I have a 2001 1500 4x4 dodge ram and want to clean up the engine and engine compartment.

Is there anything I should cover or watch out for when cleaning?

And does anyone have any suggestions of what I should use to clean it.

Thanks.

You should cover any electrical components with plastic. An example would be the alternator. Also, any intake openings to the engine. Make sure the engine is cool. Certain components, if hot when blasted with cold water, may fracture.

What to use: Amorall and WD-40. Spray the WD-40 on any areas of oil/grease buildup. Spray everything with Amorall. Let it soak about twenty minutes, and spray it off with the garden hose.

You may have to do some spot applications following the initial applications. Just follow the same path, WD-40, Amorall, wait twenty minutes, hose off.

Once you are satisified, remove the plastic covers, and start the engine to warm things up and dry out the standing water.

Default Engine Cleaning?

Thanks,

I just wanted to make sure, before I started hosing stuff off this spring. I also own an eagle talon tsi awd and I cleaned that up a few years back and I missed covering up a set of wires, ( which I guess were the wires I really had to cover up ) and the car wouldn't start for four days. I found a forum after the car wouldn't start and all the guys just said give it 3 to 4 days and it will start. I wish I found that forum before I started washing it. Oh well, I guess we learn from our mistakes.

Thanks again, later.

That's where the WD-40 does double duty. However, if you want, you can cover them with plastic wrap.
