Gas Mileage
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 v6. I want to know what the best upgrade for the buck is to increase gas mileage. I am looking at air intake, bed cover, K&N type filter,etc.. or anything anyone can think of that is worth the money to increase gas mileage.
My Dad has the same problem with his 03 Six Truck,
try running with your tailgate down and try a K&N
drop in filter, they're like 50 bucks. I'll put up results
when he gets his installed. BTW what fuel mileage
do you get?

I wouldn't run with your tailgate down, just buy a tonneau cover. That'll reduce the drag on the bed. That'll probably be the biggest differance in gas mileage, and the best bang for your buck. Until then, dropping the gate is a good way to get around the drag issue, but I'm not a fan of the look at all... LOL!
There aer tons of other mods that'll increase gas mileage a little here and there... like the Air Filter and such.... but one cheap thing to do the biggest differance in mileage would be a tonneau cover first.

I am getting about 15 MPG and I am changing jobs, the change will require me to drive about 40 miles each way, so I need all the help I can get. I had a neighbor that had the V8 sport, he put a new air intake on for around $300 and he was getting around 21 MPG.
Does anybod6y know if a canopy would help the MPG?It seems that the added weight and side drag would minimise any possible gains.But...</P><edited><editID>Gauche</editID><editDate>38015.4176388889</editDate></edited>
If you can put money like that into it, great, do it.I have the 5.9L V8, and have no experience with modding a V6. LOL!
Cold Air Intake is very helpful, but it's not a mega differance. It's not going to give you 6more MPG, although I love mine. I have the K&N FilterCharger System, I love my CAI, it sounds cool and DOES help... but I drive like a maniac so my lead foot get me about 300 miles per tank.

If your neighbor had a V/8 Dodge getting 21 mpg, he better get that thing bronzed and put it in a museum! I think he was pulling your leg!<IMG src=smileys/smiley24.gif border="0"></P>

anyone looking for a soft or hard tonneau, let me know I have a retail store in Kansas, I can get one to you very resonably, BUT I personally think an fipk K&Nwith programmer will do you the best if you want gas milage</P>

For my current truck, 94 Ford F150, I have an ARE hard top on it and my
gas milage didnt improve. I didnt purchase the hard top for
better gas milage though so its not all that big of a deal for me.

Do you carry the undercover hard tonneau covers and if so what kind of pricing do you have? Do you have a website? </P>
What about Duel exhaust? I have always heard that it would increase your gas milage.</P>
