questions about an 84 dodge ram 150
Well my dad just bought me a truck today, a 1984 dodge ram 150. It's a play toy for me actually since it's not really reliable. I have a jeep wrangler with a 3" lift and 32"s super swampers as my daily driver. Wel I know absolutely nothing about this truck so can yall answer some questions for me? What would be a nice lift set up to have 35"s and what would be a nice lift setup for 40"s? Whats the highest I can go without snapping an axle or regeraing and all that stuff? Also about the driveshafts, what size lift can you go up to before they start vibrating? What size wheels do I have(such as lug nut space)?
Thanks in advance
PS: since I know nothing about dodges heres all the badges left on it

5" lift on my 86 3/4 ton was enough to get 35's under it, but I need to cut the fenders so I can actually turn the wheel while articulated.
Tell us more about your truck. Get on the ground with a rag and find out some of this stuff.
What tranny? (auto or manual)
What transfer case? (find the round metal tag on the back and clean it off. Should be a 208 I think)
What axles front and rear? I'm guessing d44 front and Chrysler 8 3/4 rear
What axle ratio? (look at the cover bolts on the axles, hopefully one still has a metal tag with a number on it)
Shortbed or longbed?

Well It's got a D 44 for sure in the front, and a chrysler 8 3/4 in the back, it has a long bed, and it's auto
. I wish it were a manual but oh well. I can't find out the transfer case and axle ratio is tonight but I can tomorrow.

Well if I had to do it over again I would have skipped the lift (for now) and just dumped the money into my motor. Heads, higher compression bottom end...
I'd go with 35's. I just don't think you can get 40s tucked up in without either an assload of lift or serious cutting. Get a 5 or 6" suspension lift with springs all around instead of an extra lift block out back. Skyjacker makes a 3" drop pitman arm, 3" raised steering arm (if you go 6" lift, or if 5" then a 2" drop pitman) to keep the steering good. The 8 3/4" rear end should hold up fine unless you start throwing gobs of power at it, my bet anyway. I haven't had any driveshaft vibrations with mine (5"), but I did get both of my shafts balanced and a new slip yoke on the front since it was shot. I don't think I needed to lengthen either one.
