Man, I can't get a straight answer. I have called tons of tire shops trying to get someone to tell me what the biggest size tire is that I can fit on my vehicle without rubbing. Can anyone help me with this. It is an 02 Ram reg cab 1500. I would also take any tire recommendations that you have. I am looking for a bigger tire, wider (stick out just a bit), and also a mud tire, but I don't know if I can get all that in one tire.
What do you guys have on your 02's? Got pics? (figured I would throw one up)

Well I found a guy who says that I can fit 305/70R17 and as for the tire looks like I'm going with a Maxxis Bighorn. Anybody else got 305's on their 3rd generation dodge? and what about those tires, anyone had any experience with them?

No responses? C'mon guys, show me what these forums are worth. I've been reading all around, I know we have a lot of dodge fans out there, and plenty who are interested/know about tire sizes. Throughout this whole forum there is not one person who has upped the tire size on their 02 1500???

well as I said I found a guy who says I can run 305/70R17 and I am going to get them put on tomorrow. I will report back on monday and let you know what I find. Tires should be the exact same between an 02 and an 04 so whatever works for me should work for you. I'll let you know Monday.

Go to www.tirerack.com and plug in the tire size you are considering. Then when it comes up, click on "Specs" and it will give diameter, width, etc. of a bunch of sizes near that one and also gives tests and reviews by owners. It also rates the variety of tires by dry traction, wet, snow, etc. and can eat up hours......... especially if you are laid-off with too much time. My half-ton Fords have 285/50 x 20's in front and 305's in back with no problem and these are the F150 Harley models that are slammed a couple inches down. If you have 2 wheel drive, consider a larger size in back. Good luck!!! .... also understand the tire shops do not want you to change from the stock size. With too many lawyers around, anything that happens after the tire size is changed becomes their fault if they put on a different size. Tire Rack wants to know what type of vehicle you have, etc. Skip that stuff and just plug in the tire size you are interested in and if you order from them, they do not need to know what your vehicle is. You also save sales tax by getting tires from them. The shipping costs are less than the tax you save.

Ok, so I got my new tires, and I am very happy with them. AS I said I went with some 305/70R17 Maxxis Bighorns. They look great. They really fill up the wheel well. They do not rub a bit, but I only have about an inch to spare so if I were to drop one wheel off it may put pressure on the other tire and cause it to rub.
I hadn't planned on this, but I got to run the truck on a trail with the new tires and do a small amount of climbing. I was in Arkansas and there was this really big hill with a path to the top, I guess a long time ago rangers used to go to the top and take post there to watch for forest fires, well it hadn't been used in a while and we thought it was blocked off but we went up there and made it to the top where there was some mud and a steep hill that we took the truck through. It wasn't anyhting major but it was fun, and I got to see the tires in action.
So the answer to my original post ("what is the biggest tire that will fit on a Ram 02 1500 4x4") is 305/70R17. I took a few pics with my phone (low res) but I will try and post some pics of the tires asap.
