Default Less than 9 MPG!

I bought my 2002 1500 (5.9L) 4WD last March.

I can't beleive that my MPG could get worse but it has.

Over the summer it averaged around 10.2 and 10.4.

Now the computer fluctuates between 8.8 and 9.1.

I do mostly city driving which I expect to stink, but less than 9? I don't even 'get on it', and drive like an old man trying to get the best MPG I can.

I took about a 200 mile round trip a couple of weeks and the MPG did not break 10 MPG. It was extremely windy.

Right now I work about 4 miles from home, starting this summer, my company is relocating so my one way distance will be around 16 miles.

I have a K&N filter, other than spending alot of dough is there any way to increase MPG?

I am seriously considering selling and getting something with better MPG....

three words. . . .WINTER FUEL SUX!!!!!!!!!

thet blended fuel help for getting the thing started, after that it's only down hill from there. I having the same thing with mine, the Winter Diesel is some awful stuff.

what you can do is hand calculate your mileage, you might fid that your computer is reading low.

Hmmm.

I keep a log of fill ups. I am really **** that way, and it also a log of maintence and repairs. I wondered about the computer too, so some time ago I calc'd a couple of times by hand and found that the computer was very accurate.

So, it is the fuel and not the temp. It seems that the MPG gets lower with the temp.

I drive 60 miles a day for work alone, I had crappy milege before I changed my exhaust. I have the AFE cold air intake along with flowmaster dual exhaust. I figure I am getting a good 15mpg. I was always told the computer is not always so accurate.

has the 5.7hemi and we find them a lot easier.

Welcome to the 5.9 club. There are no dues for this club the only requirement is that you must stop at ever other gas station! I saw no point in buying the 5.9 when I bought my 02. I got better mileage, and was beating 5.9 rams all the time with my 4.7. The 5.9 is a pig plain and simple. And the winter blend is not helping your situation either!

heh. 20's may look good (to some) but in my book they just sap power and attract rocks. Even with 35s, 4.10s, and a 3-speed auto I'm still getting 11mpg on the freeway.

Thats what those 3.92's give ya. Not to mention it being 4wd (are you sure you have the x-case in RWD, not 4wd?) Sounds like the engine is at vey too from the consensus.

But hell, our dually with a 454, 3 spd, and 4.10's has 5-7 mpg (10 has been the absolute best we've calculated)....just be glad you don't have to drive it! I also say keep a log and pull out the calculator from time to time.
