Default -tow button question...

Ok, a simple question for ya'all... the tow button on my shift lever does what??? I have been told that it changes the shift pattern on the tranny, and eliminates the overdrive.... I have the 5 sp. auto (3 speeds display)... I also heard it would help me in turning over my 12" sneakers on my 22" wheels... all responses are appreciated.....GUIDO

I can tell you this . when i had my chevy with the tow button it drove like it had a shift kit and made a big difference. I barely notice any diff with my dodge.

Tks, I have some reservations about it....have been told it dosnt go into overdrive, but I dont know much else about it...may try it out tomorrow and see if it does anything definitive to the shifting pattern....
Again thanks for your input.......be safe.......GUIDO

locks out overdrive for when you are towing.

it is the exact same thing as the older trucks that had the OD ON/OFF button.

Werd. The only reason they changed it is so people would actually turn it on and off and stop towing 8K lbs trailers in OD and burning tranny's up.

when the tranny is in 3rd gear the entire internal mass is locked down spinning as one unit, which makes that gear the strongest gear for towing and gives you a 1:1 ratio.

now I have towed 9K with a F250SD W/7.3 and the OD on. you just have to be carefull when you use it. going down hill, or flat grade is ok, but if your accelerating or pulling up hill it's a no-no to be in OD. There were some times even on a flat grade where I couldnt use OD. you just have to pay attention to the sound of the engine and how much of a strain it is under. this is why I have a 6 speed. I can use all the gears and not have to worry

now my craziest pull was useing a F250 non-SD powered by a 4.7L gasser pulling he same load. 30 on flat and 15 up hill was all it could muster.[8D]

Nothing too crazy towed with my HEMI, yet, but...

I towed a new 350Z on a Texas Roll-back trailer with my old 2001 Toyota Tacoma doublecab TRD V6(190 HP stock) about 300 miles, the combined weight of the trailer(1900) and the car(3300) was 5200, 200 over the max towing capacity, and believe it or not it towed it at 75.

But you should have seen the look on the salesmanager at Ferrari of Dallas the day I pulled up towing a 355 with the toyota on the same trailer, he looked at me like I was crazy... nothing like pulling a $125,000 car using a little $21,000 truck! hehehe

Or even the day I was towing my friends one of a kind orange Viper... got a few stares that day too.

Needless to say all that towing was why I decided to get the HEMI before the Toyota service guys caught on and before something broke on the it.

Sorry, I didnt take any pics of the ferrari tow.

my little yoda only has the 2.4L 4 banger, but it's done it's fair share of towing as well. amazing what they can do, and I think thats partly as to why the clutch is acting up

pulling around 8x12 dump trailers loaded with what ever isnt too good

Tow haul mode will change the shift points in the tranny, it delays the shifts to prevent the engine from lugging on the hills.
