Default Door Speakers

Hello all,

I have a 96 Dodge Ram. when I took off the door panel to replace the 6x9 speakes i saw some sort of gadget hooked up to the speakes.

Does anyone know what it is & what purpose it serves. Furthermore can I simply cut it off to install my new speakers.

What does it look like? it could be your cross over.

is it a lil rectangular box with wires coming out?

Sounds like the quick connect plug.

If you got your speakers thru Crutchfield, it would have included the plug on a pigtail.

It is not rectange but curved & attached to the magnet area of the factory 6x9. It has 4 wire going in (soldered) & two wire coming out to the speaker. Sound as it could be some sort of cross over. Its definitly not a connection plug as nothing is able to plug or unplug to it (besides the connection plug is prior to it).

Has anyone seen this before & could it be simply cut off & if so, which of the 4 wires would be the ones for the 6x9?

Thanks in advance.

That would probably be an amp built on to the speaker. Dodge put amps on the speakers on that year vehicle.

OK, it has a build in amp then I guess two of the wires are for power & ground while the other two are for speakes's + & - connection.

If so which is which? Dont want to fry my new speakers.
