Default Broken *****? (ball joint)

(
Horrible rattle/clunk from front end on gravel roads especially and sometimes when braking from high speed;leaking a little(slow) power steering fluid, just replaced the passenger side ball joint for about 100 bucks, and no better....losing faith in my mechanic who now wants to replace the two tie rods and "steering rack" for about $550 more,
suggestions?
could it be both ball joints and I just need to fix driver side too?
or just one tie rod?
I dont drive rough, how could this happen on such a new truck?
thanks, beis

Default BALL JOINT?

So, went to the mechanic, replaced the right front ball joint, then on 2nd trip to mechanic, he changed some hoses and clamps to the power steering that were leaking...but the noise is still there...he said that now I need to replace the "sway bar links" on both sides and that will"definitely" get rid of the noise, what do you guys think? is it a necessary thing? is more damage to come?'thanks
