Default Weak Brakes..Help

I own a 99 1500 Ram 4x4. The brakes seem to be really weak, like they dont have much stopping power. I have owned the truck for about 5-6 months now. I havent modified or changed the brakes in any way. It did pass safety. Any suggestions for new pads, or rotors, or anything else I can do?

sounds as though your pads may have become varnished...take it to a shop and have them inspect it....if you are good at working on vehicles...you can take the pads out and rough them up....it should help a little bit....but normally they will varnish again if the rotor is varnished up as well...

they varnish from dragging brakes...

They seem pretty solid, but it doesnt seem to slow down my truck as quick as it should.

I've seen guys scuffing the rotors with a sanding disk (I think that's what it was) so the pads get a better bite when applied. You might try this if your not going to do a full brake job.

When I am home next, im going to change the pads to something better. Are there any pads you recommend? I like the fact that MIDAS has a lifetime warrenty on their brake work. I plan on keeping this truck for a good long while, so i'll probably go through them.

Just my $.02, the lifetime warranty is for the pads only. The install is extra, the rotor turning is extra.

yes it is just for the pads....but it is still a good way to go....i used to work at both midas and carX....i would say carX was the better of the two...they had a higher quality parts....but i know that will vary from owner to owner....

scuffing the rotors and pads will work....but if you are planning on getting them redone...just have them do it....
