Default hood insulation

I have a 99 full size ram that I love! I have a problem though, the hood insulation is drooping and laying on my coolant hose which is burning some of the insulation to the hose. The insulation is ripped at the connection points so I really cant reattach it. Would there be a problem if I removed the insulation all together? What is it even there for?

Thanks

thanks, I appreciate your response. Do you think there would be any problems with just ripping it out? I dont mind the noise

the insulation mat also keeps the heat off of the hood itself. By removing it, the heat-intime- will discolor the hood and leave odd looking heat marks on the hood....my recommendation would be to keep it on and manage a way to either replace it or patch it as needed...

Its also supposed to keep flames under the hood incase of a fire.

well that too...but I just figured I would mention the cosmetic reasons...that is what will make most people see the truthful part of why it is there...

Yeah, the heat can discolor/warp the hood over long periods of time, i suggest you get aftermarket insulation that hugs the hood really tightly. Probably at your local auto parts store.
