I have a 2001 ram 1500 4.9 4x4. Recently replaced the front passenger hub because of it going bad and an obnoxious squeak. Anyway, replaced the hub squeak remains. Shifted into 4H to make sure I put it back together correctly and when I went to do the turn test to make sure it engaged there was an obnoxious cruching grinding noise from my driver side. I immediately switched out of 4 back to 2 and the noise was gone. When I checked I had broken the the inside part of my driver UJoint. The questions is what could have caused this and how do I prevent it from happening again??
