I paid $2.45/gallon for 89 octane a few days ago here in San Jose, Ca. This was at a Chevron station. As it happened when I arrived at the station the price was $2.37/gallon. I started to dispence fuel when the nozzle shut off with .15 gallons in the tank. The owner of the station then told me that I would have to start again. I did and as I was leaning on the truck I saw the guy changing the numbers on the marque. I stopped the dispence (now with 5 gallon on board) and went in to ask him what happened. The guy had changed the price in mid fill-up.

I was not happy and the guy told me to take my buisiness somwhere else. I did and I have been telling the story to all and passing the word around to avoid that station. I went down the street to another Chevron station and found their 89 octane at $2.29/gallon.

You can find 87 octane for as low as $1.99/gallon at non-name stations. BTW most gasoline at all stations (name brands and generic stations) comes from the same bulk tanks. The main difference in cost is the additive package that the Chevron, Shell, and 76 stations add to the gasoline.

Also keep in mind that here in California we have MTBE in our fuel. Was sold to our govenment as a smog reducing chemical. As it turns out it is a poison that helps to reduce our fuel milage and lower our power. Thanks Gray Davis (our former govener)......us Californians thank you for your careful consideration in not demanding the oil companies take this out of our fuel to save our lakes and water ways. I hope our new Govanator (Arnold) will step up to the plate and do something.

Thanks for the soap box.

Eric
