I found it hard to believe that the guy doing the "experiment" was an engineer, and going for a masters. Hope his graduate work is more sound.

HaHaHaHa.[sm=smiley36.gif]

Man. I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

You can probably tell us how well the K&N filters out HONDA RICE though, how about posting those results.[sm=smiley20.gif]

Absolutely, anything can be put out on the web, it doesn't make it fact. However, I find it too coincidental that so many people both in forums and on the web have negative things to say about K&N. So to each his own, but I'm staying away.

I have heard about these concerns from a few places too. I worry about it enough not to jump on the K&N bandwagon yet, but I will look at other people filters until I find one that people don't complain about. I have heard good things about AMSOIL filters. Anyone hear anything bad about these?

You're about to start a "Great Debate"....
You really think so? <picks up chair ready to defend himself>. I could go for a good debate right about now. I just wish I knew more about the subject at hand so I can participate more. As it stands, I'll just be learning what I can from it. So feel free to fire it up guys and girls!

I'd like to make a referance to this post from Feb 2004 where this issue was addressed. This is the reason I don't have K&N yet. There seemed to be some pretty good info on the subject here.

My experience and limited testing was not performed in a controlled environment, however I will offer my results and everyone can take them for what their worth. I have owned three diesel pickups, chevy, ford, and dodge and used/tried K&N's on all three. I also ran oil analysis on all three. Prior to installing the K&N, all oil analysis results were nominal. After installation, silica content jumped to excessive levels. Ensured the filter was installed correctly and correctly oiled. Again silica content came back high. Installed stock filter and silica content dropped back to original readings prior to filter installation. I did not install a CAI on any truck. Only changed the filter. IMO, K&N is great for weekend use (racing, saturday night fun), however for the long haul I will stick with a stock configuration. What little extra hp gained is not worth the additional contamination.

Interesting debate at those sites. They seemed as split over the topic as everyone else is. I don't know about going the Amsoil filter route, they make a great line of lube products, but how can they be "experts" in so many different areas even including vitamins?!? K&N on the other hand does one thing (as far as I'm aware), filters. I'm surprised the company hasn't addressed these "issues" that have been posted. It's their "lifeblood" after all!! Maybe they have't because it isn't a real issue? I dunno guys and gals, I just might check out the K&N website and see if I can call or e-mail them and get some answers one way or the other.....[sm=smiley29.gif]

OK, I contacted K&N via e-mail told them about the postings of contaminates from using a K&N filter. Now we'll see if they respond and what they have to say about it.....[sm=smiley5.gif]
