towing dilemma
Does anyone have any advice on this? I bought a 04 Ram Quad 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi and 3.92 axle ratio. NO towing package. The dealer had NO trucks on the lot with it and instead installed a factory hitch /wiring as part of the deal. When told I was towing a 23'camping trailer 5000Lb GVWR I was given "shouldnt be a problem" answers....from Dodge, trailer dealer service tech, friends, etc.. Now after finally getting a REAL answer from Chrysler HQ I am told my truck is only equipped to pull 2000lbs. Nice. I have yet to tow anything with this truck which I bought mainly to pull my camper. I generally pull 5-6 times per summer usually 2 hrs each way. 2 friends have the same truck and pull a boat and bigger camper without any trouble-no trailer package. Am I in for a prematurely burned out transmission or should I look into a transmission cooler. Has anyone installed one on their truck? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe I read on here that all the new Dodge trucks come with transmission coolers. I have a 2003 Ram 4.7L with a towing package and according to the Dodge website I can tow ~6200 lbs. So I don't see why the Hemi towing rating would be lower than the 4.7. So you should be ok, but like I said I'm not 100% sure.
Issue resolved. I traced the lines from my transmission to a cooler in front of my radiator. After another call to a service dept. and a couple of tranferrs I was told the 5.7l hemi comes WITH both oil and trans. coolers. Looks like I'm all set.
