Default Cold Air Intake.

I want to put an intake on my 98 Ram 1500, 5.9L but I dont want to send a lot on something like the K&N, it is rated at 7 hp upgrade and I was wondering if stuff like this.

On ebay would do the same job for less cost. I am old concerned about the fact if the kit on ebay comes withe mounting stud and the throttle body gaskets. Anyone ever seen one or have one of these. Or does anyone know another cheap type like that.

Thanks,
Mike

The stud goes into a prethreaded hole already in the throttle body and the other end uses a wing nut to put pressure on the top of the throttle body hat. It fits great and there is not a throttle body gasket included in that kit you have linked. There is a gasket already inder the stock airbox which is used to seal the bond between the box and the throttle body. That kit you have found works great but I would recomend getting one with a metal throttle body hat, platic has a tend to crack with that much heat.

Ok so you think it is a real thing, and not some ripoff that does do anything, thats good, I agree with the plastic hat thing so here is something better.

It looks nicer,

Is this honestly like the K&N but just cheaper and not a brand name?

Sort of like the price difference on things made in China or the same thing made in the US?

If you go look at the airaid intake system, it is identical to the one you linked on ebay, let me see if I can find the Matrix Racing one I am talking about. Give me a couple of minutes.

This is the style that I had on mine, it is not the matrix racing but it is the same thing, this one looks like it has better hardware then the one I had. On these types of intakes the filter is not reusable and is pretty cheap, but you can put a K&N or other reusable filter on it and you are still spending less than $100.

I don't want to say you are wrong, but aren't mine and yours exactly the same thing. Except for the rubber connect looks more durable on yours. I see yours is cheaper so that is always good. Also if I got this kit, either one, how much power would i get and could i still put throttle body spacers on.

The one I showed you has the metal throttle body hat that I was talking about. Other than that they are identical. My opinion the metal is better and will last longer. You will get about the same gains out of the big brand names. You might not be able to fit the throttle body spacer on too, I dont know, but I am selling my throttle body spacer off my old truck and you can try without having to buy a new one. Check out the link below where I have it on ebay. I also have a jet chip for the 5.9L on there too.

And by the way, did anyone try those 1 in throttle body spacers for like 30 bucks on ebay. I'm guessing they are the same as the brand name ones.

You have to be carefull, if it is only 30 bucks then they might not have been researched or proven to work... I would not buy one like that personally.

Here is the one I was looking at.

Now that I think about it I have second thoughts because I cant tell if it has the helix design in it or what, I'm gonna have to do some more research on this stuff.

The Airaid one you had, how much preformance up did you feel/get
