Default problem with my 1500 '95 ram pu

I have a problem with my 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 2 wheel drive pu with the 318 cid.
In 3rd gear (automatic trans) at approx 1250 to 2000 rpm or about 55 mph to 65 mph my truck "shudders". it's like a bad plug not fireing. When I take it off "overdrive" it mostly stops doing this but my rpms are 2125.
I can still feel it shuddering but it's mostly not noticable.
The problem is I'm running 800 more rpms than I would run with my overdrive on.
All plugs are fireing as I have changed the plugs and then visually saw them fire while cranking the engine.
Is this a "sensor" problem or is my transmission bad (110,000 miles on the odomiter)? Is this a fuel pump problem?
As I have a daily commute (one was is 30miles) I am currently spending 70 bucks a week on fuel.
I inherited this truck from my dad who bought it new and it still looks like new. I started driving the Dodge instead of the Scout 2 for the fuel milage but the dodge is getting worse milage than the '78 Scout 2 with a 345 4bbl (4x4). But the Dodge has Air, Cruse, Leather, Power windows and looks tough (great).
I've been working this problem for the last 3 weeks and any help I can get will be appreaciated and followed up. As an update, tonight while comming home it was raining and the shuddering did not occure, not at all.
When going to the store later I had to go on the Interstate and the shuddering was back.

Are there any engine codes?
and if you leave the tranny in 2nd or 3rd at the same RPM's does the problem appear?
Check the CPS (crank position sensor), I've heard (no personal experience on this one) that they can cause this type of symptom. Also there is a problem that pops up in the distributor... can't remember exactly what it was but if you search for distributor problems you should be able to find it.

That sounds like plug wires to me!!!!
There's a TSB on moving the coil wire that matches your description #18-48-98

No engine codes////
does not occur when in 2nd gear
Sometimes on start up the truck shudders severly while backing up or going forward under 5 mph. when I speed up (out of the driveway) it stops AND that is not all the time, only on occations.
I have a Chilton's for it and it makes no referance of it. It was because of this problem I bought the Chilton's manual

I haver puled all the plugs one at a time and checked for spark . I got a strong orange spark from all 8.
no mention of "shuddering" under dist. in manual.

Where do I get a TSB#18-48-98?

Sounds like you are losing the OD unit. Drop the trans pan and look for metal-my guess is you'll find lots. Sorry for bad news-no sensor will cause what you are describing.

I found the TSB's on the web and downloaded the info. I'll take a look this weekend and see how/where the plug wires are routed. I'll also drop the trans.pan and take a look inside. thanks fer all the advise and I'll let ya know what I found
