Sounds like what mine started doing two weeks ago, Sunday it finally quit, no 2 to 3 shift.
Bottom line: $1715 to rebuild the trans, new solenoid trans governer, transduce pressure sensor, seal package, torque converter, filter and valve body, and ATF-4 fluid at the Dodge store.
Also had the power steering flushed while it was there.
This was at 55,000 miles.

This was for an 01 1500 2wd 318 truck w/4speed auto.

Sorry, sound like heap big bill coming youre way.[]

Mostlikely your governor solenoid and/or transducer is out. A seasoned transmission tech with the proper diagnostic equipment should be able to determin if these parts are at fault. I would have both replaced at the same time. These parts have a very high failure rate. Labour to replace them should be around 2-4 hours plus ATF. Transmission stays in vehicle. . Good luck.

For a possibly cheaper solution, try having your transmission completely drained and then put in a good synthetic ATF and new filter. See how that goes.

So this doesn't seem like an advertisement, shoot me an email and I can tell you who I recommend.
