I ordered a Flowmaster 50 which is made specifically for the Hemi. Should I leave the stock tailpipe resonator on? If not how do I replace the tailpipe section? What exhaust tip should I use?

I had the resonator cut off a while back and I really could only tell a small difference in the sound. I'm considering cutting the muffler out, and replacing it with just the resonator.

I cancelled my Flowmaster 50. It was back ordered to the end of the month. Local muffler shop will put a complete dual exhaust with stainless tip and Flowmaster 40 for $350. I am considering this option. Told wife it will improve gas millage by 2 mpg. Might get it as a B-day gift. I am gonna to check around including ebay for prices.

Don't know the accuracy but have read that hemi engines actually lose low end power using normal flowmaster mufflers, which is why flowmaster developed a special muffler just for hemi engines with a different internal configuration. Just what I read (several places).

I recently went with the 40 series and I love it. A local muffler shop put it on with a dual, angled exhaust and stainless tips for under $300. I've noticed 1-2 mpg gains around town and 2-3+ mpg gains on the highway. I just drove from Mississippi to California and back, so I figure my gas savings paid for the new exhaust and it sounded great all the way.

I just had a Flowmaster 50 put on last week. Single in and out and left the resinator on. It's perfect for me. Not to loud and not too quiet. Nice tone. Guy and the muffler shop said the resinator on the 04 4.7 didn't look like it did to much to taking it off wouldn't do much either.

That's how I was thinking at first too, but then I figured that Flowmasters sound distinct because they are specially designed to eliminate certain frequencies/tones of sound, while leaving others alone, and this makes up the "flowmaster sound". Seems to me that the resonator is obviously affecting the tone on a different level than the FM, and so it will mess up the sound. For this reason I'm heading in this weekend to get rid of the tailpipe and res, gonna put on a dual chrome tube exit before my rear wheel and see how that sounds.
