Default Gear ratio info

I'm sure this has been covered but what gears come stock in a ram with 20's? ever since i got mine (20's) it seems that there is not as much power as before. and also if i swapped my gears do u think that my fuel mileage would drop very much??????

If i recall, when i bought mine '04, if you got a Sport, Off-Road, or something with 20's you get the 3.92, everything else got 3.55, unless your up in the 1'tons, but i dont think they come with 20's. Are your 20's stock? And ya, if you swapped gears, to a numerically higher, like 4.11's your gas milage will decrease, but not buy much. My olf Ford, with 35's, i got a 25% increase in my gas milage, when i swapped out the 3.55's to a 4.56.

What your feeling could be a difference in weight, or tire diameter.

If you didn't add the 3.92 gears, then it's 3.55 like he said.

It's physics. The taller the tire, the lower the ratio will be and the less power you'll be putting to the pavement. You've probably changed the effective ratio to something like 3.23. If you install a higher gear ratio, it should make up for the tire height and give you back the missing performance.

I'm thinking I would have liked the 3.55s. I have the Hemi and I don't think higher gears would hirt the performace at all. If you want to work the truck or tow you can use the OD lockout. Thats what it was designed for. I also have a 97 with a 318 and it runs great. I would think the hemi would out perform the 318 however I am noticing the 318 is turning less RPM to drive the same speeds...???

To perform like our stock hemi's youd need to go 3.92 or higher. and since these arent stock tires/rims, your speedo is out of aline.. not sure by how much.. but a hair.

Check underneath your truck and the drivers side rear axel, it should have the stock gearing there.
