Would someone please tell me what the point of having a dually actually is? Does it increase towing capacity?
In the '06 Ram brochure, the 3500 Quad Cab Dually has a lower listed towing capacity than the SRW. All the other 2500/3500's have same rating in their respective GCWR class whether DRW or SRW. Think this is why all the new Dodge 2500/3500's are considered Heavy Duty.
On older trucks, and other MFR's, there may have been different/optional rear axles available whether non-heavy duty and/or Dually. The Dually probably only offered with the best/strongest available axle, so the answer to the question "Does it increase towing capacity?" may be yes, just not on the new Rams.
