Default limited slip

I've got a limited slip differential, and if you don't put any friction modifier in when changing the axle grease, what kind of damage would that do?

If i am not mistaken, the difference between non limited-slip and limited slip is that the limited slip has a clutch package in the housing. I would assume that without the additive, the clutch plates would slip which in the long run would cause glazing. And then that would mean that there would be no hooking up both axles anymore. I am no whay any expert on this, just a thought.

The additive for a limited slip differentail makes it slip. If you dont add it you'll engage the LSD to often in situatons you dont need it. This will greatly increase wear on your rear end.

The noise it makes without the modifier is enough to make you want to put the modifier in.[sm=smiley20.gif]

Should say it on the original window sticker.
Will also say it on the axle.

Floor it around a turn in the rain... if you get a one tire fryer, you don't have it.

I'd guess that less than 5% of Rams have it. Stupid, especially on 2wd w/ HEMI.... should be standard!![:@] When I bought my truck, I literally looked at every single HEMI on the lot (close to 50-60 trucks) and only 2 had the non-slip! One was a HEMI Sport. I would have gotten one of those, but they had none of the other options I wanted.

Problem with clutch-pack style limited slips is that they wear out. The longest I've seen them last is mabe 60K miles. Then you are reduced to an open diff unless you replace the clutch-pack.

It's a $290 option on new trucks. If you do the work yourself, you can probably install an aftermarket unit for around that same price.

I have a 92' W250 w/ Cummins Turbo w/ 130,000 miles and mine is still working. Probably could use to be rebuilt, but I have done alot of towing with it but mine is also a Dana 70. I will never by anouther truck without a LSD or a Locker. It makes that much of a difference!
