Default Let's end the madness I am so confused about Dodge Ram Speaker fitment

Let's end the madness I am so confused and have purchased and hopefully made right decision. I have been looking at Crutchfields site for speaker fitment and checking forums. I just purchased all new Infinity Kappas for my new style 2002 Dodge ram Quad cab and have purchased 5 1/4's for my back doors based on what forums say. I have faith that they will fit from reading these forums. I am just confused about this because of Crutchfield syas 6 1/2's and replies in the forum say that people have installed 5 1/4's and 6 1/2's. If they are 6 1/2's is there a way to fit 5 1/4's in door. Also My understanding is that Infinity sound system have 6 speakers. What is the little grille for in the center of dash and if it is not a speaker why does it feel like there is sound coming out (vibrating) of it when I put my hand on it. Thank You

Yes it comes with either 5.25 or 5.5, but there is a mounting plate that comes with it. You can install 6.5 with out the plate. You may need to buy a new plate because if I remember right the plate is one with the speaker.

As for the center hole, no speaker there, only the two on the corners of the dash if you have the infinity sound group.

Hope this helps!!

Joe

Any idea where I would find the mounting plate.

I put 6.5 speakers in the rear.

It is easier drilling new holes and such instead of getting the brackets for the 5.25 size.

Not to mention better lower end sound.

I already bought the 5 1/4's just waiting for them to show up. Might just sell them and get a set of 6 1/2's unless I can find the bracket easily.

I couldn't wait for them to show up. I took off the door panel which was cake compared to what people say in the forums and found out they are 5 1/2" speakers. Thanks for the replies

If you ordered them from crutchfield, chances are they will come with the brackets you need.

if they dont come with a bracket just build one out of masonite. should just look like a ring that is a little bigger than the hole that the speaker is going in with the middle hole the size of ur new speaker. just screw the speaker to the "bracket" u made then hook up the wires and screw the plate to ur door. easy huh?

I just swapped a 6x9 in my doors of my 97 to a 6.5" speaker and i made an adapter plate out of 1/4" lexan. If you were to do the same in the rear of your 02' you could probably fir the 6.5" with out cutting your factory panel because of the additional 1/4".

My QC with Infinity has 3 speakers in the dash. A left and right tweeter and a center one that plays both channels.
