Hey all im looking into buying a used 2000 dodge ram. it is a good price but kinda high on the mileage, it has 73K miles,, but it looks like its in mint condition. its a 4x4 ext cab v8.... i was just wondering, are the 2000s known to have transmission problems ? i have heard of horror stories from others, didnt know if these still existed with the newer years..

I currently have a 2000 qc with the 360 v8... I have 35" swampers, stock gearing, and pull a 22' boat , a 20' enclosed quad trailer and have had no problem with the tranny... and it has over 50k HARD miles. Hope this helps.

i bought my 1997 from a friend because i could not resist the deal. it is a 97 4x4 ext cab and is loaded. only two problems. the check engine light is on, and the odometer read 160,000 plus miles!!! i got the truck for 5 grand and i love it. the check engine light is coming from the tranny. it is the sensor from the torque converter. i have had the truck for a year and about 15,000 miles. my only objection is the tranny needs to "warm up" in the morning. when i first leave the house, it doesnt put power to the ground. after about a half a mile it is perfect. i am going to run it into the ground and then take it to a tranny shop and have it rebuilt with a new torque converter. meantime, i fixed the check engine light by covering it with a decal. i fixed the mileage by doing the only thing i can do -put more miles on it! if you get the truck cheap -buy it. if the tranny gives, fix it. it is that simple. fords and gm trucks have their share of problems too. i want a hemi truck bad but guess what, mine is paid for. i love it. the only thing better than some nice and new, is something nice and paid for. i wouldnt trade my truck for anything, especially a payment book. good luck with it!
