Any known Problem areas I should look at on a 97 ram 2wd with the 360? It only has 60k on the clock and the outside is nice, no scratches, dents or rust.

We currently have a 97 ram 1500 and we are on our 3rd transmission! I'd say that is the only thing to look for. We had to change it out around 72k and I think we just bought a bad rebuilt because it went out again after 3k! Now we are at 98k and since we got the original one rebuilt, we haven't had any more problems. That is the only thing. We love that truck, in fact my husband could sell it to buy a new one-we kept it for him and bought me a new one! Good luck with your new truck!

I just bought a 2000 1500 Ram with 48k miles. I paid 2K for the extended drivetrain warranty. Front end is a little flaky, I'm working on shoring it up with new shocks all around, new bushings (not many in the front end), and i'm thinking about the tracking bar either being replaced (http://www.lukeslink.com/trackbar.html) or just new bushing there. Also I found this little add-on (http://www.solidsteel.ca/Products.htm) after looking around in different chatrooms, so I think I'll add this as well to tighten up the steering. Definitely have the tranny and front end looked over by someone.

After I buy mine I am going to get a shift kit installed in it. I know most Autos from the factory suck and really take away alot of power. Might get a higher stall converter too.

That solid steel product is supposed to fix the tracbar problem for good (using a 2003 tracbar w/out the ball joint). If anyone has tried it yet can you provide some feedback on installation & results?

Well tomorrow I am going to the dealership and test driving the truck. I will bring a full report back tomorrow. I hope I can talk the dealer down to 8500 for the truck. I am paying cash for it so i HOPE he says yes.

Tranny! Tranny! Tranny! I own a '94 4x4 Ram with the 5.9 and I am the proud owner of my 3rd tranny! You should be ok, but just remember if your buying a dodge, it is a big problem area. The fuel pump is another thing you want to watch for, and....not really anything else i can tell you for a 2x4...sorry?!

I am thinking about purchasing a warranty so that if something breaks I will be ok until I can save some money for a built transmission.
